1st XV 7 - 64 Redruth (Cup)

Stourbridge fielded a development team for this EDF cup match in Cornwall and paid the price against a full strength Redtruth team.
 
Stourbridge were quicker into the game and Dan Pointon just failed to collect a chip by Sam Robinson with the line ahead wide open.
 
Redruth went ahead in the 11th minute when right wing Vinnicome collected his own chip ahead and scored under the posts for Griffiths to convert.
 
Stourbridge were competing well in the scrum but were unable to contain the rolling maul especially from the line-out.
 
From such a rolling maul Redruth extended their lead with a try by hooker Cooper which was again converted by Griffiths.
 
For the next 15 minutes it was all Redruth who scored more tries from Bright(2) and Thirley (2) with Griffith converting 2 of them.
 
Stourbridge never gave up trying and ended the half with a period of sustained pressure but were unable to score.

Early on in the second half a knock on denied Stourbridge a try. Redruth then went on to score two more tries from Thirby and Richards one of which was converted by Griffiths before Stourbridge got on the score board with a try by Scott Morris, the pick of the Stourbridge players, which was converted by Chris Rowley.
 
Stourbridge then made a number of substitutions bringing on some of their more experienced players in Jenner, Rowlands and Price, however, they were unable to stop two further tries from Vinnicombe and Bright which were yet again converted by the steady Griffiths.
 
Stourbridge chairman Peter Trinham said "Although this was a heavy defeat it gave Director of rugby Neil Mitchell a chance to look at a number of fringe players who have been performing well in the development squad and he now has a better idea of who is able to make the step up to first team level".
