GERRO'S GREEN LIGHT

Stourbridge’s Ben Gerry has been given the green light from an RFU disciplinary hearing after the committee decided there was no case to answer.

Ben had been cited for an alleged incident in the Redruth game way back in November when Stourbridge had powered to a well-earned 22-20 victory at Stourton Park.

However the incident has left a bitter taste in the mouth for the Chairman of Stourbridge’s management committee, Dick Jeavons-Fellows who says the whole episode has been a waste of valuable time for many of the Stourbridge’s key volunteers.

"One of the Redruth players suffered a heavy knock during the match and after a brief period walked from the pitch to the customary applause and took no further part in the game. As far as I know none of the officials saw anything untoward and the game continued,” he said.

“Then twelve days later Ben is cited by Redruth in a move which caused some dismay at Stourton Park. For one reason or another it has then taken nearly eight weeks for the process to be completed, which is very annoying when it is confirmed that there is no case to answer.

“I want to thank Carl Wythes and Andy Verlander for the massive amount of work they have put in to preparing Ben's defence case on the Club’s behalf. We are lucky to have men of this quality prepared to invest so much time into Stourbridge rugby.

“And I want to thank Ben for his unerring commitment to Stourbridge on and off the pitch, while this bizarre citing has been hanging over him,” Dick added.

“Now it is time to move on and enjoy some great rugby for the rest of the season”.
