U18's V Woodrush, October 7th Away, Won 33-44.

Another excellent performance by our U18 girls at Woodrush resulted in a 33-44 win for Stourbridge.

There were some very good tries scored by the girls including Barbara Palmieri, Jess Faulks, Becky Wale, Fran Stroud, Ellie Harris and 3 by Player of the Match Katie Knott. The 2 conversions were by Katie Knott and Barbara Palmieri.

While there was some brilliant handling and tackling by the girls, there were also a few lapses in concentration which resulted in missed tackles and therfore the final score was much closer than it should have been.

U15's V Camphill, October 7th Away, Won 30-40

An outstanding first game for the U15’s. Due to other commitments and injury we were only able to field 5 players and Camphill only 6 players. This meant that all 5 Stourbridge had to give their all for the full match with no substitutions; and this they did. For 2 of our 5 it was their first ever game, but you would have been hard pushed to choose who they were on the day. Some truly excellent ball handling and mauling skills were on display from the Stourbridge girls. They were against worthy opponents and they gave their all from the first whistle to the last. 6 tries were run in by Charlie and the other 2 by Fabie.
We look forward with great anticipation to our next game and fielding a larger team.

U18's v Bridgenorth Home, Sunday 11th November. Won 27-5

Another excellent performance by the U18's saw a well deserved win against a spirited Bridgenorth side. Our tries were scored by 2 by Ellie, 1 by Jess and 2 tries 2 tries and a conversion by Barbara. Ellie was voted player of the match.

U15’s v Bourneville January 27th Won 78-42

An excellent performance by the under 15s saw a convincing win against challenging opposition. The girls played exceptionally well as a team and demonstrated how their skills of tackling, evasion and rucking have developed over the season. Many tries were scored by the girls in this 8 v 8 match, including Charlie (Capt.), Madison, Faye and Rhiannon. Ruth ensured that a series of tries were converted with some powerful and accurate kicking. Player of the match was Madison who thrilled spectators and team members alike with her incredible speed which left the opposition standing. All team members deserve a mention, so well done to Faye, Katie, Shannon, Jasmine from Camp Hill (thank you for playing for us), Charlie, Ruth, Madison, Rhiannon, Amy and Charlotte (a brilliant performance in your debut match girls). We look forward to a repeat performance!
A special thank you to Dave, who stepped in at the last moment to referee this exciting and spirited game.

Under 18's V Woodrush January 27th Won 60 -17

With the last 4 matches being cancelled some due to the weather, the girls were eager to play a match, and we were not dissapointed with the performance they put in. As a sign of how much this team has improved you only need to look at the results from last season when we lost to Woodrush.

Todays performance saw a particulaly fine performance from "Man of the Match" Jessie Faulks and also excellent debuts from Laura and Steph. Tries were scored by Jooles, Steph, Jess, Vick, and 3 by Barbara.

Senior Ladies 25 Dudley-Kingswinford 0 23rd February 2008

Sunday (24th Feb) saw the first ever game for Stourbridge senior ladies. A large and enthusiastically supportive Stourton Park crowd watched them take to the first team pitch against local rivals Dudley Kingswinford. Our ladies ran in five tries and kept a clean sheet in a 25-0 victory. The hard work put in by the forwards in training paid off as the strong pack proved to be more than a match for DK. This combined with the pace and aggressive tackling our backs ensured that DK were always struggling to make ground. Two first half tries saw Stourbridge reach half time with a 10-0 lead and their morale running high. Stourbridge opened the scoring in the 15th minute following a fine run by winger Elaine Grant. Strong running by Grant threatened to add to her score but she was thwarted by some last ditch DK tackling. Stour continued to dominate and a second try looked inevitable, it came five minutes from half time, courtesy of a pick and go by number seven, Abi Wilkes.
Despite the second half downpour made for difficult handling of a greasy ball and slippery conditions underfoot, Stourbridge worked well together to retain possession and continue to pose threats to the DK defence. They made excellent use of their opportunities to secure three second half tries, with a hat-trick for number eight Barbara Palmieri. Her first try, fifteen minutes into the half, followed DK defensive errors resulting in a charged down kick. Ten minutes later Palmieri scored her second try with a superb individual effort, a 50 metre solo run. She completed her hat trick a minute from time following a strong drive from the pack.
The second half contained the amazing sight of Steph Waterfield coming on as a second half replacement at outside centre - at the age of 63 years - that is some debut !!
I am sure we all wish the ladies well for the future and look forward to their next fixture. The following web link should give you video footage of the match:- http://www.expressandstar.com/2008/02/25/stourbridge-ladies-break-new-ground
