News - 13/06/08 - Fitness Training
Don’t forget fitness training on Monday evenings at 7.00pm – we have had a really good turnout generally over the last few weeks. Thanks to Vicky, Babz and Sue for their hard work.
Additional Practice
Following on from training on Wednesday night when Mitch came down, he pointed out to the backs that we really need to work on our basic skills in addition to our regular training. So being the swots that we are :-) the backs who could make training this week have decided to meet at 6.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays so that we can get some additional practice in before training. If anyone can make it free time/work permitting please come down and join us - it’s not exclusively for backs, forwards are more than welcome!!!!

Sunday 20.04.08 away stourbridge Ladies v Stafford - result 10-10 draw. Whilst having the majority of possession, the ladies found it hard to score points against a well drilled stafford team with a considerably larger pack. Despite twice taking the lead with tries by Charlie and Kas, the ladies were unable to press home their advantage as in the previous meeting between these two sides. Stafford managed to draw level just before half time and scored an equalising try! in the dying minutes. Still unbeaten and a good result for our first match away from fortress Stourton.
sunday 13th April Stourbridge Ladies made it 3 wins from 3 when they took on Fiveways on home turf, winning 68 - 0. Both teams were fielding only 12 players, playing 5 in the pack and 7 backs. There were try hatricks for Lucy Evans (on her debut) and Katie Yates. Lisa Davies scored 2 tries on her debut, other tries came from Babara Palmieri, Susan Marsh, Hayley Slimm and Elaine Grant. 4 conversions were made by Jenifer McKeown.
On Sunday 31st Stourbridge Ladies beat Stafford ladies 37 -5, in a higly competitive game.
Sunday (24th Feb) saw the first ever game for Stourbridge senior ladies. A large and enthusiastically supportive Stourton Park crowd watched them take to the first team pitch against local rivals Dudley Kingswinford. Our ladies ran in five tries and kept a clean sheet in a 25-0 victory. The hard work put in by the forwards in training paid off as the strong pack proved to be more than a match for DK. This combined with the pace and aggressive tackling our backs ensured that DK were always struggling to make ground. Two first half tries saw Stourbridge reach half time with a 10-0 lead and their morale running high. Stourbridge opened the scoring in the 15th minute following a fine run by winger Elaine Grant. Strong running by Grant threatened to add to her score but she was thwarted by some last ditch DK tackling. Stour continued to dominate and a second try looked inevitable, it came five minutes from half time, courtesy of a pick and go by number seven, Abi Wilkes.
Despite the second half downpour made for difficult handling of a greasy ball and slippery conditions underfoot, Stourbridge worked well together to retain possession and continue to pose threats to the DK defence. They made excellent use of their opportunities to secure three second half tries, with a hat-trick for number eight Barbara Palmieri. Her first try, fifteen minutes into the half, followed DK defensive errors resulting in a charged down kick. Ten minutes later Palmieri scored her second try with a superb individual effort, a 50 metre solo run. She completed her hat trick a minute from time following a strong drive from the pack.
The second half saw the amazing sight of Steph Waterfield coming on as a second half replacement at outside centre - that is some debut !! http://www.expressandstar.com/2008/02/25/stourbridge-ladies-break-new-ground/
