The season was rounded off in fine style with third place in the prestigious Ledbury 7's tournament .

In the first round we encountered local rivals Worcester who the disposed of by 22 points to 20 despite going down to a try from the 1st play of the match.

In the second round the team went down by 37 points to 7 to Bridgend but with Worcester losing both of their matches this ensured us second place in the group and a third place play off against Welsh Exiles who had come second in group two.

In the match the team came out easy winners by 27 points to 14 with scrum half George Morgan scoring a hat trick of tries. In the main final Bath defeated Bridgend to take the overall title.

Sunday 4th May

Stourbridge Under 16’s hosted the annual Robert Bick Memorial 10’s and managed a creditable third place. In the first match Stourbridge ran out 20 points to 5 against local rivals Old Halesonians with tries from Liam Marshall, Dale Pinnigar and two from Alex Wells. The second round was a tense 5 all thriller against Kidderminster with George Morgan being denied a second winning try with the last play of the game. This meant that Stourbridge were unable to contest the final by virtue of the fact that Kidderminster had scored more points against Halesonians 27-7.

In the second group Stourbridge B containing a number of Under 15’s were beaten in there first game with Ledbury 45-0 but came back to give Bromsgrove a fright with by holding them to one try in each half and lose by only 12 points. In the other game in this pool Ledbury Bromsgrove beat Ledbury to set up a final encounter against Kidderminster.

In the 5th/6th place match Old Halesonians were clear winners against Stourbridge B with under 15’s winger Will Fellows scoreing their only try of the tournament. In the 3rd/4th match Stourbridge played festival rugby rinning in 7 tries 3 from George Morgan 2 from Matt Willettes and one each from Dale Pinigar and Liam Marshall with conversions from Morgan and Willettes. In response Ledbury managed 2 tries and one conversion.

The Final between Bromsgrove and Kidderminster was a tight game with the scores changing hands several times. Kidderminster opened with an unconverted try only to be overtaken by half time by Bromsgrove with 2 converted tries. In the second half Kidderminster hit back with two tries and a conversion to take the lead before Bromsgrove finished off the game with an unconverted try to make the final score Bromsgrove 19 Kidderminster 17.

Sunday 27th April

North Midlands Cup Final

Worcester Lost 5-30

The whole team gave a sterling performance in the North Midlands Under 16 Cup Final at Luctonians on Sunday but came out second best to an outstanding Worcester team.

Stourbridge had to contend with early pressure from Worcester and conceded four unconverted tries in the first quarter of the game. However from there on the team gave a performance of great spirit and did not concede another score during the half several times we broke the Worcester line but were unable to finish off and score

Early in the second half Worcester increased there lead with another try which was once again unconverted. Matt Willettes finally broke through the Worcester defence to score and with the conversion by Sam Baker the deficit was reduced to 25-7 Worcester completed the scoring in the final minute with a further unconverted try. The final score of 30 points to 7 did not reflect the way the team played and several comments were made regarding the way the team never let their heads fall.

Sunday 20th April

Kidderminster Lost 15-26

In the last before the North Midlands Cup Final we rested several key players and came second best to a very determined Kidderminster team. Kidderminster opened the scoring before James O’Sulivan and Matthew Willettes gave us the lead only for Kidderminster to score and convert to give them a 2 point half time lead.

In the second half George Morgan edged Stour in front with a try but once again this was unconverted. Towards the end of the match Kidderminster scored a further two converted tries to extend there winning lead to 26 points to 15.

Stourbridge RFC under 16's won through to the Final of the North Midlands Cup with a tough away victory over Birmingham Solihull on Sunday.

Stourbridge kicked off and soon found themselves in the lead with a well taken try from Kyle Lockley which was converted by Sam Baker, which was quickly followed up with a solo effort from flanker Dan Scot who broke through the Birmingham defence to score out wide and make the lead 12-0. Before half time Birmingham came back with two tries and a conversion to level the scores at 12 all.

Early in the second half full back Alex Wells joined the line and finished off a move with a try right on the corner flag which Baker converted to make the score 19 - 12. Once again Birmingham came back with two tries and a conversion to give them the lead for the first time in the match 19-24. With five minutes to go Stourbridge hit back with a try under the posts by Liam Marshall which was once again converted by Baker and there then ensued some frantic defending before the final whistle ensured a 26 points to 24 victory.

Welsh Rugby Festival Challenge Cup

Over the weekend of the 29th and 30th March Stourbridge RFC Under 16’s took part in the Welsh Featival of Rugby held at Colwyn Bay RFC. In attrocious weather conditions the first opponents were Barnhall from Ireland who were desposed of 5 points to nil with a first half try from Liam Marshall. Next up were Daventry where Stourbridge were able to show there skills with a 5 try win. Sam Baker opened the first half scoring with Matthew Willettes making it a 10 nil half time lead.Will Jenkins increased the lead early in the second half before the moment of the tour when prop forward John Griffiths broke through before kicking ahead for Kyle Lockley to pick up and score before Jake Best completed the scoring

Day two started with the pitches in an even worse condition and a match against home side Colwyn Bay which resulted in a score line of nil - nil with the Stourbridge backs unable to run through the thick mud. With seven minuites each way extra time the result remained a nil - nil draw. This set up a final against St Sinnans from Ireland and with first half tries from Matt Willettes and Matt Ward Stourbridge set up a ten point half time lead. In the second half Matt Ward found a piece of better ground on the wing and completed a try in the corner to give Stourbridge the win by 15 points to nil.

Monday 10th March

A team from Ridgewood High School (Year 11) containing eight players from Stourbridge RFC progressed to the final of the North Midlands Plate Competition with a win over Ludlow School. With two tries in each half from Bills and Cotterill in the first and Bills and Denham plus a conversion from Grainger in the second the team recorded a 22 points to 0 victory

Sunday 9th March

Wolverhampton Won 58-5

Stourbridge RFC Under 16's bounced back from last Sundays defeat against

Five Ways

Old Edwardians with a ten try victory over Wolverhampton on Sunday. With first half tries from George Morgan, James Bills, Stu Williams and two each from Liam Marshall and Dan Thomas plus two conversions from Sam Baker Stourbridge went into half time with a thirty nine point lead.

In the second half Wolverhampton fought well but with Stourbridge defense holding strong they were unable to make any headway and had no answer to the pace of the Stourbridge backs who ran in a further three tries two from Marshall making it four for the match and one from Matt Willettes plus conversions from Baker and Willettes. With Wolverhampton scoring a consolation try near to he end o make the final score 58-5

Sunday 2nd March

Five Ways Old Edwardians Lost 17-42

Stourbridge RFC Under 16's underwent the sternest challenge of the season against a
Five Ways
side smarting from a quarter final exit from the North Midlands cup and an earlier Stourbridge win.

In the first half Sam Baker gave Stourbridge the lead with an early penalty before an interception near to the twenty two resulted in a Liam Marshall try out wide with Baker converting to make the score 10-0. Five Ways came back with a penalty before Marshall scored his under the posts with Baker once again converting the half time score was 17-3 to Stourbridge.

Second half was a different matter as with only 16 players available injuries started to tell on the Stourbridge side whop finished the game with only thirteen players and as a result
Five Ways
were able to run in 43 unanswered points.

Sunday 24th February

North Midlands Cup Quarter Final

Old Halesonians Won 31-7

Stourbridge RFC Under 16’s progressed to the semi finals of the North Midlands Cup

The under team had to endure a hard fought game against local rivals Old Halesonians. Roy Hemmings opened the scoring on two minutes with a 30 metre run to score a try in the corner which was converted by Sam Baker. The next try was the result of sustained forward pressure with Joe Geach grounding under the posts for Baker to convert. Before half time Stourbridge extended their lead with tries from Will Jenkins and a second from Roy Hemmings one of which was converted by Baker.

The second half was a much tougher affair with both sides defending well. Old Halesonians reduced the deficit with a converted try from Callum Mahoney before Jenkins wrapped things up for Stourbridge and with a further conversion from Baker the final the final score read 31-7

Sunday 3rd February

Shrewsbury Lost 10-26

Stourbridge RFC Under 16’s suffered only their second defeat of the season when they lost against a strong Shrewsbury team on Sunday.

Kicking with the wind Stourbridge went into the lead with a try from scrum half George Morgan who poached the ball from the back of the scrum to score the opening try which was unconverted. There then followed a passage of play with both sides defending well but with Stourbridge unable to make use of the strong wind. Just after half way through the first half flanker James Bills powered over in the corner to give Stourbridge a 10 point lead which lasted till half time.

In the second half Shrewsbury made better use of the wind and scored two converted tries to make the score 14 -10. Towards the end of the match with Stourbridge trying desperately to get the ball out wide in an effort to force a score Shrewsbury were presented with two break away tries one of which was converted with the last kick of the game to make the final score 26 points to 10.

Sunday 27th January

Evesham Won 64-0

After six weeks of inactivity due to Christmas the weather and cancellations Stourbridge RFC Under 16’s opened 2008 in style with a 10 try away win over Evesham on Sunday.

Taking full advantage of the slope Stourbridge worked the ball to winger Roy Hemmings who opened the scoring out wide. The pack then took the initiative with new recruit Dan Evans giving extra power which resulted in three tries. The first of which went to scrum half George Morgan which was followed by back row drives from Stuart Williams and Dale Pinnigar. Not to be outdone Liam Marshall playing at centre wove through the Evesham defence to score under the posts. The first half was completed when lock forward Joe Geach went over for his first try of the season. With Sam Baker converting four out of the six tries scored the half time score read 36-0.

With five changes including the complete front row and two in the backs Stourbridge continued the second half as they had finished the first with the pack exerting pressure which resulted in a second half hat trick of tries to scrum half George Morgan. The scoring was rounded off with a second try to Roy Hemmings and with Baker converting all four second half tries the final score read 64-0. Credit must be given to the Evesham lads who never gave up gave there all right through to the final whistle.

Sunday 3 rd December

Five Ways Old Edwardians Won 7-5

The Under 16's recorded their first ever victory over Five Ways Old Edwardian in a thrilling encounter on Sunday.

Straight from the kick off the forwards exerted pressure on the
Five Ways
line and were unlucky not to score. For the next twenty five minutes both sides defended well without any score until three minutes before half time when Kyle Lockley followed up a kick through from Sam Baker to score near to the posts for Baker to convert to make the half time score 7-5.

In the second half Stourbridge played their best defensive rugby of the season with both backs and forwards tackling and rucking well to deny Five Ways any score. The lads also came within a whisker of scoring themselves on several occasions but were held up near the line. In the last ten minutes
Five Ways
were awarded several penalties which they chose to run and at the final whistle the score remained 7-5 to Stourbridge.

Sunday 25th November

Walsall Home Won 59-0

Stourbridge RFU Under 16's bounced back from last weeks defeat at Newport with a nine try feast at home to Walsall on Sunday. From the kick of the Walsall attacked well through the forwards but solid defending by Stourbridge kept them at bay. With around tem minutes gone scrum half the Stourbridge pack drove over the line for scrum half Mat Grainger to pick up and score the opening try of the match which was converted by Sam Baker. With the Stourbridge pack starting to win more ball there then followed a brace of tries from flanker Kyle Lockley both of which were converted by Baker who rounded off the first half with a try and conversion under the posts to make the half time score 28-0.

The second half opened with a second try for Grainger again as a result of forward pressure. With the pack now winning good ball Walsall had no answer to the powerful Stourbridge three quarter line and tries followed from Liam Marshall Dan Thomas Matt Willettes and Dale Pinnigar with a further three conventions from Baker. The final score of 59-0 did not fully reflect the game with Walsall trying hard and playing with spirit right till the final whistle.

Sunday 18th November

Newport Away Lost 10-26

Stourbridge RFC Under 16's experience there first defeat of the season away at Newport on Sunday. With several first choice backs unavailable it was a close first half with both teams missing out on opportunities to score. The only try of the half was scored by James Bills when he powered over the line in the thirty second minute to give Stourbridge a five nil half time lead.

Within five minutes of the re-start Stourbridge increased their lead when Kyle Lockley scored out wide. With Stourbridge making several changes in the pack the scoring form then on was all from Newport who scored four tries and three conversions to make the final score 10 points to 26

Sunday 4th November

Bromsgrove (North Midlands Cup) Home Won 26-0

Stourbridge RFC Under 16’s won through to the quarter finals of the North Midlands Cup with a tough game against Bromsgrove on Sunday.

Stourbridge went into an early lead with a try from Liam Marshall which was converted by Sam Baker. This proved to be the only score of the first half as both teams had several chances to score but due to resolute defensive work on both side no score was forthcoming despite powerful moves from the Stourbridge pack.

The second half started in the same way until fly half Sam Baker received the ball from a penalty and crashed over to score. Soon after Liam Marshall scored his second try which was converted by Sam Baker to extend the lead to 19-0. The scoring was completed just before the final whistle when Sam Baker repeated his first half move to score his second try which he duly converted to make the final score 26-0

Sunday 28th October

Dudley Kingswinford, Home Won 7-0

Stourbridge RFC Under 16's 100% winning record underwent a server test in a low scoring game against local rivals Dudley KIngswinford on Sunday. In a scoreless first half both teams had several chance but playing with a slippery ball for the first time this season there were numerous knock on's and passes that went astray. The only scoring chance of the half was a penalty to Stourbridge which was missed.

With several changes at half time Stourbridge were struggling against a much larger Dudley pack but a rare trip into the Dudley twenty two resulted in a try for fly half Sam Baker which he also converted to give Stourbridge a 7 point lead. For most of the rest of the game Stourbridge were forced to defend there line as three times the Dudley pack crossed the line only to be held up. Stourbridge held onto their slender lead until the end to record a narrow win.

Sunday 21st October

Camp Hill , Away Won 47-15

Stourbridge RFC Under 16's recorded their third win of the season against Camp Hill on Sunday with over 10 players unavilable through holidays or injury three players made the Under 16's debut. Roy Hemmings, Sam Fletcher and Under 15's hooker Rob Horton

Stourbridge opened the scoring with a try from winger Roy Hemmings which was converted by Sam Baker. With several forwards unavailable the Stourbridge pack found it hard going against a much bigger Camp Hill eight but secured enough ball for George Morgan to nip through to score a second try which was once again converted by Sam Baker. Camp Hill then reduced the lead just before half time with a penalty to leave the half time score 14-13

Camp Hill were first to score in the second half with an early unconverted try before the Stourbridge backs picked up the pace to score tries from Liam Marshall and George Morgan both of which were converted once again by Sam Baker. Camp Hill once again showed good work in the forwards to score their second try of the match which they also converted to make the score 28 points to 17 before Stourbridge finished with tries from Liam Marshall's second and third of the day and Roy Hemmings second. With Sam Baker missing only one kick all match the score at the final whistle was 47-15.

Sunday 7th October
Silhillians, Away Won 19-17
Stourbridge RFC under 16's took part in a thrilling encounter away at Silhillians on Sunday.
The opening score came from Liam Marshall after five minutes, playing at outside centre who broke through from midfield to score under the posts for Sam Baker to convert. Stourbridge then went further ahead when scrum half George Morgan picked up at the back of the scrum and drove over for at try, the only other first half score went to Sillhillians to make the half time score 12-7.
The second half was a close affair with Sillhillians scoring an unconverted try after 9 minutes before Sam Baker scored extended the lead with a try and conversion after George Morgan has stolen the ball from the back of a scrum. With five minutes left Silhillians scored and converted a try to make the score 19 -17 to ensure a tense last few minutes.

Sunday 30th September
Hereford, Home Won 50 - 38
The Under 16's took part in a fourteen try thriller at home against
Hereford
on Sunday.
Hereford opened the scoring after five minutes with an unconverted try before Stourbridge took the lead with a push over try by the forwards which was touched down by Calvin Fereday and converted from out wide by Will Jenkins. Jenkins then extended the lead with a try of his own which was converted by Kyle Lockley. For the rest of the first half the lead changed hands on a regular basis with a try for Hereford
which was quickly followed with a score for by scrum half James O'Sullivan once again converted by Will Jenkins. Just before half time Hereford took the lead with a converted try ro make the half time score 26-21.
At the start of the second half Hereford went further ahead with an unconverted try before Stourbridge showed their class with tries from winger Dan Thomas, flanker James Bill and a 60 yard run from Liam Marshall which culminated in a try out wide which was once again converted by Will Jenkins. With five minutes left Hereford leveled the score at 38 all before a second try from Liam Marshall and a score with the last play of the game by Will Jenkins converted by Sam Baker left Stourbridge winners by 50 points to 38.

Sunday 23rd September
Lexus 12 A Side Tournament
The Under 16's opened their season with an outing in the "Lexus Midlands 12 a Side Competition" held at Derby RFC on Sunday. In round one they came up against a strong Derby side and went down by four tries to nil. In the second match against Walsall the team bounced back with first half tries from Kyle Lockley and Dale Pinnigar one of which was converted by Sam Baker and two second have tries from new boy Dan Jones on the wing once again Sam Baker converted one of the tries to make the final score 24 points to nil. In their last match Stourbridge went into an early 10 point lead with tries from Will Jenkins and Dan Thomas only to see the lead disappear with two second half tries from Kenilworth who ran out winners by 12 points to 10.
