Well done to everyone on winning the Lichfield Festival!!!

Champagne

What a great way to round off what has been a very successful season. In the past two weeks, we have competed in two tournaments playing eleven games of rugby and have yet to be beaten - A record to be proud of.

Unfortunately, the season has now come to an end and there will be no more competitive rugby until next September.

Sunday 4th May - Social Afternoon

Weather Dependant - To round the season off, on Sunday May 4th I have arranged with the landlord of The Old Wagon and Horses on the Stourbridge Road, Ismere, DY10 3NX that if the weather is good he will host a barbecue for us all. I have chosen this pub because there is a large field at the back suitable for playing tag rugby and other games on, they have a good restaurant and so the barbecued food should be good and not too expensive, there is an adventure playground for the kids and the beer is very palatable :-) It would be a great way to end the season offering an opportunity for us all to get together as squad limits at tournaments and away fixtures have meant that we have not had opportunity to all be together for some weeks. So please come along, bring the family and lets make a day of it. The barbecue will start at 2:00, but there is nothing to stop us meeting earlier for rugby and/or other games, so may I suggest that we see you at 1:00

Sunday 11th May, 10:30am - Presentation Morning

We would like to welcome everyone who has played or trained with us this season. The presentations will be taking place in the May Ball marquee at 10:30am. It is a celebration of our season, so please try to make it.

Sunday September 30th - Hereford - Away

Played 3, Won 3 - Great Start!

Sunday October 21st - Camphill - Home

We played 2 games, won the first 7-3 and drew the second 3-3.

The coaches overall man of the match was Joshua Garmston who didn't score the most tries, but he defended well as well.

Try scorers for today were: William Mahoney x 5, Joshua Garmston x 4 and William Radford x1.

We thought that we played very well and got better as the game went on. We defended well with getting tags, and in return giving them back to the player quickly, we supported one another and looked a very strong and organised pack.

Well done everyone!

Sunday October 28th - Dudley-Kingswinford - Away

A tough fixture on paper, to what some would call a local derby. We played 2 and won 2!

The first game, we started off slowly while we were getting use to a smaller pitch than what we are use to and weighing up the opposition. The second half of the game is where we really played with confidence and support one another. A total of 6 tries in the second half which is fantastic, well done. The game finished Dudley Kingswinford 2 - Stourbridge 8.

The second game, we played well but started to lose a bit of concentration at times and DK punished us for this with some good tries. Three tries in the first half and two in the second.

Try scorers:

4 tries - Tom Smith and William Mahoney.
3 tries - George Westwood.
1 try - Harry Larcombe-Strong, Harry Westwood and William Radford.

Award winners:-

Man of the Match - Awarded to Tom Smith for his all-round awareness and determination. Tom scored a total of 4 tries on the day but supported his team mates when we were attacking and defended well. Great performance!

Try of the Day - Awarded to William Radford for his great try late in the second half of the first game. Running the length of the pitch from the right corner to the left corner try line with two hands on the ball all the way. Well done!

Defender of the Day - Awarded to George Westwood for a superb one handed tag in the second game to stop what seemed to be a definite try to DK. Great!

Sunday November 4th - Worcester & Bromyard - Away

A tough fixture and what I would say would be our biggest challenge so far, and well done to Stour. Still unbeaten!! We played 3, drew 2 and won 1.
Worcester 5 - Stourbridge 5; Bromyard 6 - Stourbridge 9; Worcester 6 - Stourbridge 6

We played well and should have done better. There are a few areas that we need to concentrate on but to come away from Sixways as we have, GREAT!

Try scorers:

6 tries - Tom Smith.
2 tries - Harry Larcombe-Strong, Joshua Garmston, Archie Batham-Read, Archie Morgan, Edward Simmonds and William Mahoney.
1 try - William Radford.
1 try - Harry Moseley.

Award Winners:

Man of the Match - Awarded to Edward Simmonds for his all-round performance especially in the game against Bromyard. Keep it up!

Try of the Day - Awarded to Archie Batham-Read for his great try in the first game against Worcester. Ran the full length of the pitch. Great try!

Defender of the Day - Awarded to Harry Larcombe-Strong for a solid performance against Bromyard. Well done!

Please remember to return the trophies for next week!

Once Again - Well Done Everyone!

Sunday November 25th - Walsall - Away

Another great overall performance. We coped really well considering that we played on a lot smaller pitch than we are used to! Played 2, won 2 and the under 7's unbeaten run roles on!

We played well from start to finish with some great tries and defending. The only thing that I have to repeat myself on is, remember to get into formation quickly and I don't want to see you arguing with your team mates, we are a team and we help each other!

Our next opponents are going to be more of a challenge, so we must be alert and ready.

Try scorers:

4 tries x George Westwood and Harry Moseley.
3 tries x Archie Batham-Read and Joshua Garmston.
2 tries x Charlie Shaw and William Mahoney.
1 try x Tom Smith.

Today's Awards Winners:

Man of the Match - Awarded to Harry Moseley for his all-round performance. You had some great runs today, keep it up!

Try of the Day - Awarded to George Westwood for his first try of the day running nearly the length of the pitch with dummies and running from left to right and vice versa. Great try!

Defender of the Day - Awarded to Harry Westwood for his overall contribution with defending throughout both matches. 10 tags - Well done!

Sunday December 2nd - Old Silhillians - Home

All good things come to an end. Unfortunately we lost our unbeaten record losing twice to a well prepared Old Silhillians side. The first game was decided by a single try in a high scoring game with Old Sils winning 8 tries to 7. The second game was very one sided with Old Sils running in convincing winners at 10 tries to Stourbridges 4.

Try scorers:

8 tries x George Westwood.
2 tries x Archie Batham-Read.
2 tries x William Mahoney.

Today's Awards Winners:

Man of the Match - Awarded to George Westwood for his all-round performance. You scored some great tries today, keep it up!

Try of the Day - Awarded to Archie Batham Read for his first try of the day. A fantastic supporting run that was rewarded by a swift lateral pass that led to a great team try.

Defender of the Day - Awarded to William Mahoney for his overall contribution with defending throughout both matches. Well Done.

Sunday January 20th - Bromsgrove - Home

Honours shared this week won one, lost one, drew one. A ring rusty affair with both teams showing a lack of match practise due to the poor weather conditions since Christmas

1st game, Stour won 6-5.

Tries William Mahoney x 1, George Westwood x 4, Harry Larcombe-Strong x 1.

2nd game, Stour lost 5-7.

Tries William Mahoney x 2, Tom Smith x 1, Joshua Garmston x 1, George Westwood x 1.

3rd game, Stour drew 6-6.

Tries Tom Smith x 1, William Mahoney x 2, George Westwood x 2, Archie Batham-Read x 1.

Man of the Match: George Westwood
Defender of The Day: William Mahoney
Try of The Day: Harry Larcombe-Strong

Sunday 3rd February - Bridgnorth - Home

Played 2, Drew 1 (7-7) and won 1 (4-2). The first game:- We started off being on the back foot quite a lot. Bridgnorth defended well, but also pushed us back to our own line when we had the ball.

Try scorers: George Westwood x 3, Tom Smith x 2, William Mahoney x 1 and Joshua Garmston x 1.

The second game:- Stourbridge started off a lot better and managed to break through their defence. A win well deserved.

Try scorers: George Westwood x 2, William Mahoney x 1 and Tom Smith x 1.

Man of the Match: George Westwood

Try of the Day: Tom Smith

Defender of the Day: Harry Moseley All in all:- Under the very cold conditions for both children and parents, well done to all who turned up. It was a very evenly matched game but attacking is an area that needs a bit of work. We were caught too many times with the solo runner not having the back up that he needed when being tagged.

Sunday 17th February - Kieran Bracken Tournament - Home

This is was a triangular tournament involving all age groups between Under 7s to Under 12s against both Worcester and Saracens Rugby Clubs.

Tournament rules dictated that we can have a maximum squad size of 12 players only.

U7s Squad for the Kieran Bracken Tournament was as follows:

Joshua Garmston
Archie Batham-Reid
Charlie Shaw
Tom Smith
Harry Fussell
Harry Westwood
Henry Nash
Jacob Saul
Thomas Scriven
George Westwood
Harry Moseley

Game 1 : Stourbridge V Worcester ~ Worcester Won
Game 2 : Worcester V Saracens ~ Worcester Won
Game 3 : Saracens V Stourbridge ~ Stourbridge Won
Game 4 : Stourbridge V Worcester ~ Worcester Won
Game 5 : Worcester V Saracens ~ Saracens Won~
Game 6 : Saracens V Stourbridge ~ Stourbridge Won

Can I firstly thank everyone who attended on Sunday and contributed to what was a very enjoyable day for everyone involved.

We played 4 games beating Saracens twice, but losing twice to Worcester. All of the games where closely contested.

The quality of the rugby was superb by all teams. In the bar after the game, a number of people came up to me who commented on how good it was and how they could not believe that children at the age of 6 and 7 could play the game so well, so we can all be very proud and I thank you all for your efforts.

For those that did not go to the clubhouse after the game, the overall title went to Worcester this year, Stourbridge where 2nd and Saracens 3rd.

Man of the Match: Harry Moseley was injured during the 2nd game against Worcester, coming off worst when colliding with one of our team when attempting to prevent a Worcester try. He had to be taken by the paramedics to hospital. I think is fair that on a day of spectacular rugby all round that we award Harry the Man of the Match Award for his bravery and wish him a swift recovery.

Try of the day:George Westwood. He scored a spectacular try against Saracens where he received the ball 10 meters from our try line , jinked through their entire team with no Saracens player able to lay a hand on his tags even though it looked more than likely. He then burst clear and ran the entire length of the pitch to score.

Defender of the Day: Joshua Garmston. His determination to get the tags and his adherence to the defencive game plan gave him the edge. Well done Josh.

Sunday 24th February - Birmingham & Solihull - Home

Birmingham Solihull fixture, Played 2, won 1 (7-6) and lost 1 (5-8).
Firstly, well done to both teams. The level of rugby that we watched today was wonderful to watch. It makes our job as coaches all the better when we watch a game like that. A great game!

First Game.
What a start? Three tries by us in the first 5 minutes. A game that was fast from start to finish by both teams.

Try scorers: Tom Smith x 2, Jacob Saul x 1, George Westwood x 2, Archie Batham-Read x 1 and William Mahoney x 1.

The Second Game:- A good first half but then we seemed to lose our composure during the second half and gave our opponents a few extra opportunities to score. But considering that we had you playing yesterday as well, well done boys!

Try scorers: Joshua Garmston x 1, William Radford x 1, Tom Steven x 1, George Westwood x 1 and William Mahoney x 1.

Man of The Match: Tom Smith. (Well done Tom. You scored some great tries, defended well and always gave support when needed. Your best game yet. Well Done!)
Try of The Day: Jacob Saul. (The second try of the day. A great run with speed and agility. You have only been with us for a few weeks, but you'll make a great rugby player).
Defender of The Day: Joshua Garmston. (You were always there when it looked certain we would concede a try. Well defended).

All in all:- Our fixtures have been getting tougher and tougher and we always knew that this would be a tough fixture and it certainly was. Considering our lack of time in practise sessions this season, we are proud of how well and far you have come in such a short period. You played with passion today, attacked well and defended well. You really have started to get the hang of supporting one another and getting these tags. Well done to you all.

Sunday 2nd March - Chaddesley Corbett - Home

To Be Updated

Sunday 9th March - Wolverhampton - Away

Firstly, to Harry Moseley. It was great to see you today and thank you for turning up to help cheer on the team. On behalf of myself, the other coaches and the team, we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Good luck with having the cast taken off and be careful.

Here is today's brief..

A bit lost for words really today. During the warm up, you gave me a bit of a scare when it seemed as if all we had taught you about passing had completely vanished from our memories giving a cause for concern before the game. And then, you came out onto that pitch and played fantastically for 2 games. Well done!

Throughout both games, everyone supported each other, defended well, got those tags and scoring tries one after another. It really was great to watch you out there today and it was very hard to pick the award winners when you all play as a team.

Anyway:-
Game 1.
Tries from George Westwood x 2, Tom Smith x 2, Archie Batham-Read x 1, Harry Westwood x 2, William Radford x 1, William Mahoney x 1.

Game 2.
Tries from George Westwood x 1, Jacob Saul x 2, Tom Smith x 1, Harry Westwood x 2, Henry Nash x 1, Charlie Shaw x 1, Archie Batham-Read x 1.

The awards:

Man of the Match: (a very hard decision today and both these players deserved it, so they can share it) Tom Smith and Harry Westwood. Both of you defended well and scored some great tries. Well done to the both of you.
Defender of the Day: Archie Morgan. Great defending. You really came into your own today and all the coaches were very impressed. Keep it up Archie.
Try of the Day: Archie Batham-Read. There were so many great tries scored today, this wasn't an easy choice but your try in the first game clinched it. Well done.

Sunday 30th March - Moseley - Home

Won 11-10 and 4-2

The Awards:

Man of the Match - Jacob Saul
Defender of the Day - Harvey Woodall
Try of the Day - George Westwood

Sunday 13th April - Bredon - Home

Firstly, welcome back Harry Moseley, it was great to see you back in our colours. Keep up the exercises and look after your foot.

We played 3 games, winning 2 and losing 1.

The playing conditions and circumstances were a bit different to what you have been playing in, but you coped and played really well. There was some great support in both defence and attack and everyone who was watching enjoyed some great tries. For the majority of the season we have seen tries coming mainly from solo runs but on Sunday, you really started to click and we saw one try especially that involved at least four passes before Joshua went on to score the try. A very encouraging sign ahead of this weekend's Tournament at Luctonians. Keep up the good work.

Game 1. Bredon 2 - Stourbridge 5.
Tries from Jacob Saul x 2, George Westwood x 1, Joshua McEvilly x 1, William Mahoney x 1.

Game 2. Bredon 3 - Stourbridge 2.
Both tries from Joshua McEvilly.

Game 3. Bredon 4 - Stourbridge 6.

A fantastic day all round. We came second in a major tournament and played very well against a selection of very strong teams from England and Wales whilst remaining unbeaten throughout. You are a credit to Stourbridge Rugby Club. You played competitively, but fairly and where complemented by a number of referees and opposing coaches for your efforts. With a little work on our defensive shape and attacking patterns, we will be a formidable force next year. Well done to everyone.

The Awards:

There are no individual awards this week. You are ALL winners

Sunday 20th April - Chaddesley Corbett - Away

FIRST MATCH
Well, we started tentatively as the boys became adjusted to their new fellow Micro players by having to defend our 5 yard line straight away, but after leaving a gap on the right wing CC got their first try, they all then quickly understood that attack was the best defence and Henry Nash got a super darting try on the left wing to bring us back into the game. After a quick team brief at half time the boys were fired up but CC had a super girl who opened us up to place a well earned try for CC.
The second half the game consisted of end to end attacking. A particular try by one of the Micro's boys James Walker where he a weaved a 25m run in and out the CC players leaving them routed to the spot a joy to watch and was the high light. Harry Fussell and Tom Scriven defended exeptionally to keep the game within our reach. Final score CC 5 Stour 5.

SECOND MATCH
The under 7's now were looking focused for a win, we put some fresh legs on from the Micro's and with joint agreement with the CC ref we both played with 8 players which helped to fill the large pitch. Stour for the first minute or so were too tightly packed and had to defend in numbers but after a little gentle persuasion they suddenly loosened up and carved two wonderful tries in as many minutes one by Henry Nash and the other by Harry Fussell, the passing was very well taken by all the team and the Micros were certainly grabbing the occasion with both hands. CC just couldn't deal with the enthusiasm and at half time Stour were 3- 1 ahead. CC in the second half tried to come back with some very nice dating runs splitting us but suffered when dropping balls on the run, this was again due to a strong defensive by Tom and Harry and exhalent pick up's from Harvey and Henry to close the match for Stourbridge. Final score CC 3 Stour 6

A big thank you for CC and there excellent refereeing and for Pete Bate and Richard Walker in demonstrating what good work has gone into developing the Micros this season.

The Awards:

Player of the match - Henry Nash
Try of the match - James Walker (Micro's)
Defenders of the day - Harry Fussell and Tom Scriven
